5.1.6 Initiating a PSTN Audio-Only Conference and Adding PSTN
Audio-Only Sites
You can use the terminal to initiate a PSTN audio-only conference or add PSTN audio-only sites
to a video conference.
Before initiating a PSTN audio-only conference or adding PSTN audio-only sites to a video
conference, connect the terminal to a PSTN. For details, see section
Initiating a PSTN Audio-Only Conference
From the
Call
screen, enter the number to be called, and then press on the remote control to
place a call and set up a two-party conference.
The terminal supports dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) two-stage dialing. To implement two-
stage dialing, dial the access number, and then follow the voice instructions to enter another
number.
Adding PSTN Audio-Only Sites
After a conference starts, dial the conference number for audio access from a terminal or a
traditional telephone to join the conference. This number can be obtained from the chair site of
the conference. To query the conference number for audio access, choose

5.1.7 Initiating a Conference Using the Built-In MCU
You can initiate a conference using the built-in MCU of the terminal. In this case, no additional
MCU resources are required.
As an indispensable component in a multipoint conference, the MCU is responsible for multiple
functions, such as site access, video exchange, audio mixing, data processing, and signaling
interaction.
A terminal with the built-in MCU function can initiate a multipoint conference by implementing
functions such as site access, video exchange, audio mixing, data processing, and signaling
interaction. In this case, the terminal functions as a mini MCU.
The built-in MCU function is a feature of the terminal. With this feature, when initiating a
conference, the terminal can work independently, without involving the other components on
the videoconferencing network in conference scheduling. This helps to reduce unnecessary
communications during the conference and reduce the network load.
NOTE
l
The built-in MCU–related parameters are displayed on the screen controlled by the remote control or
the Web interface only when the
Built-in MCU
is selected on the nameplate of the terminal.

has a build-in MCU.
Conferences held with the built-in MCU function have the following features:
l
After a point-to-point call is set up, site-by-site calls can be made to hold a multipoint
conference.
