Removing and replacing the processor
Before performing this procedure, Hewlett Packard Enterprise recommends identifying the processor-heatsink
module components (
Processor, heatsink, and socket components
on page 63).
Procedure
1.
Observe the following alerts.
WARNING:
To reduce the risk of personal injury from hot surfaces, allow the drives and the internal
system components to cool before touching them.
CAUTION:
To prevent possible server overheating, always populate each processor socket with a
processor socket cover and a heatsink blank or a processor and a heatsink.
CAUTION: THE PINS ON THE SYSTEM BOARD ARE VERY FRAGILE AND EASILY
DAMAGED.
To avoid damage to the system board, do not touch the processor or the processor
socket contacts.
CAUTION:
Heatsink screws must be tightened and loosened in sequence. Do not overtighten the
screws as this can damage the system board, connectors, or screws.
IMPORTANT:
The front and rear heatsinks are different. Be sure that you are installing the rear
heatsink only in the rear of the server and the front heatsink only in the front of the server.
