the netdist serv er deliv ers to other systems on request: the lesets y ou
select using updist are the only ones the netdist serv er can pro vide.
T o distribute softw are for Series 300, Series 700, and Series 800 systems, run
the updist program with eac h series set of up date tap es. After all sets of
softw are are loaded, the Series 300 and 800 softw are is con tained in separate
directories b eneath the /netdist directory . Series 700 softw are is con tained
in the 800 directory b eneath /netdist.700 .
5. When updist completes, to bring up the serv er to distribute Series 700
softw are, en ter
/etc/netdistd -l -f /netdist.700/MAIN.pkg -P 2107
The netdistd program is the daemon that monitors the net w ork for
netdist requests. The -l (low ercase L) option causes the netdist daemon
to log activit y and error information to /usr/adm/netdist.log . The -f
option causes /netdist.700/MAIN.pkg to list the lesets a v ailable for
net w ork distribution. These les are describ ed later in this c hapter. The
-P option sp ecies the p ort n um b er on the serv er. F or other options to
netdistd , see netdistd (1M) in the HP-UX R efer enc e .
If y ou are also using the serv er to distribute Series 300 or 800 softw are,
en ter:
/etc/netdistd -l lower c ase L
6. Make the update program on the serv er a v ailable for net w ork distribution to
clien t systems.
On the serv er, build the TOOL arc hiv e.
En ter the follo wing commands at the system prompt.
