194 Chapter 13 Imaging oil

ENWW

Overview

The press uses imaging oil as the base carrier for the ink pigment particles. Because only
pigment particles stay on the printed sheet, the press constantly monitors the relationship
of imaging oil to ink pigments. The ink cans supply the ink pigments and the imaging oil
tank supplies the imaging oil.

The press also uses imaging oil to clean and cool the PIP. The oil flows from the imaging
oil tank to the cleaning station and then returns to the imaging oil tank. Two filters, located
at the imaging oil tank outlet, filter out the imaging oil impurities. Replace the imaging oil
filters when they become too dirty to filter the imaging oil. The imaging oil filter assembly
has an optical sensor that checks imaging oil purity. Clean this sensor periodically to keep
it in good working order.

Imaging oil filters

The imaging oil system is a semi-closed system. While printing, some imaging oil
evaporates. The press system automatically compensates by adding imaging oil to the ink
tanks. The imaging oil reservoir is located at the feed-rear side of the press.

The imaging oil reservoir supplies clean imaging oil to the ink tanks and to the cleaning
station. The press maintains the imaging oil at a constant temperature of 14° C ±2° C

(57° F ±3.6° F).

The system displays an error message when you refill the imaging oil tank or replace the
filters.
