10 Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), click Properties, and set a static IP address with the
information from the Configuration Worksheet for the <<mgmt_vm_deployment_ip>> and the
<<deployment_net_netmask>>.
Leave all the other fields blank.
11 Reboot the VM.
Disable the Firewall
Procedure
1 Open Server Manager, and click Local Server.
2 Click the link to the right of Windows Firewall in Server Manager.
3 In the left side of the Windows Firewall window, click Advanced settings.
4 Click the Windows Firewall Properties link in the main window.
5 For the Domain, Private, and Public Profile tabs, set the firewall state to Off.
6 Click OK and exit all of the firewall management windows to return to the Server Manager window.
Note
If you re-enable the firewall, wait until the deployment procedures are complete before doing so. Waiting
ensures that any problems that arise are not caused by the Windows Firewall during installation. It also means
that you you know the proper ports to allow and to block after all of the needed components are installed on
this VM.
Enable Remote Desktop Access
Procedure
1 Open Server Manager, and click Local Server.
2 Click the link to the right of Remote Desktop in Server Manager.
3 Select Allow remote connections to this computer, accept any warnings, and click OK.
Configure NTP
Procedure
1 Right-click the clock in the taskbar (at the bottom-right corner of the Windows desktop) and click Adjust
date/time.
2 Change the time zone and set the time and date as appropriate for your deployment.
3 Click the Internet Time tab and click Change Settings.
4 Select the Synchronize with an Internet time server checkbox and enter the value of
<<mgmt_net_ntp1>>.
5 Click OK, and click OK again to complete the setup.
Run Updates and Install Software
Procedure
1 Run Windows Update and apply all updates, which might require multiple reboots of the VM.
2 Install the VMware vSphere Client for Windows, if required:
a Using a web browser, navigate to
http://vsphereclient.vmware.com/vsphereclient/5/1/1/2/5/0/8/VMware-viclient-all-6.0.0-5112508.exe
b Download and install the vSphere Client for Windows.
Note
This application is downloaded from the VMware website. Therefore, Internet access is required
for this VM.
