No-Boot-Disk Superdome Installations

XP or EMC Symmetrix Boot Device

XP or EMC Symmetrix Boot Device

Use the following checklist as a guide when connecting the Superdome to an XP or EMC Symmetrix boot
device:

1. Verify the storage device is a Superdome supported device.

2. Confirm that the current firmware level of the XP or EMC Symmetrix is correct (the customer will supply

the required information).

3. Verify the correct hardware is ordered with the Superdome that will allow connectivity to the XP or EMC

Symmetrix.

4. Work with the customer to establish and verify requirements for number and size of disks. The customer

is responsible for making sure disks are reserved in the storage device.

5. Prior to install, confirm that the Superdome firmware is at a supported level.

6. Obtain a copy of the LUN map from the customer.

NOTE

The Solution Consultant should provide a document to the CE with the above noted
requirements. The Deployment Project Manager may be able to assist the CE in accessing
these documents.

Required Materials

Before using the delivery checklist, make sure that the storage cables are long enough to reach from the
Superdome to the storage device. Appropriate termination devices may be required.

Also required is the HP-UX 11i media provided by the customer.

Delivery Checklist

After the Superdome and Support Management Station (if purchased) have been installed, follow the
guidelines below upon system delivery:

1. Physically connect the Superdome to the XP or EMC Symmetrix.

This requires one or more cables for each partition being installed.

2. Verify the appropriate disk devices are available using ODE and mapper2.

ODE is available by booting from the HP-UX 11i Support Plus CD.
