System Performance Verification
Detailed Test Description
Detailed Test Description
CW Frequency
Accuracy Test
This procedure measures minimum and maximum CW synthesizer
frequencies using a frequency counter. Afterward, the self tests verify that
the internal hardware is maintaining frequency accuracy over the full
frequency range. For greatest frequency accuracy, the HP 8360 family of
synthesizers should be plugged in to an AC power outlet for 30 days.
NOTE
If the synthesizer is disconnected from AC power for more than 24 hours,
the built-in timebase cools (and loses stability). If this occurs, it takes
another 30 day period for the synthesizer to stabilize (after it is plugged in
again).
Maximum Leveled
Power Test
This test uses a power meter to measure the maximum leveled power at
200 MHz intervals across the system's frequency band.
This procedure considers the RF source and (optional) amplifier a single
unit. Therefore, when the procedure refers to the “transmitter source” or
“source” it is referring to both units connected together. In this case, when
the procedure says to “connect the power meter to the output of the source”
you should actually connect the power meter to the output of the amplifier.
RF to IF Conversion
This procedure uses a power meter to calibrate the RF output power from a
RF source. Next, the receiver measures this calibrated RF power across the
frequency band. It then calculates the difference between the calibrated RF
power and the power measured by the receiver. The difference between the
two is the conversion gain (loss).
IF Noise
Measurements
Low-level noise is the RMS noise level of the trace data when the channel is
terminated with a low VSWR termination. Each channel (mixer) is tested
across the frequency band to determine the RMS noise level.
Channel Crosstalk
This test measures the signal leakage from one channel to another channel.
In this test a high power signal is input to one channel (mixer), and the other
channel is terminated with a low VSWR termination. Either the “a1” or “a2”
channel is used to phase lock the system.
