Hospira GemStar System Operating Manual

Chapter 2. Basic Operation

Priming Pump Sets WITH a Drip Chamber

Push down on the flow stop

close the cassette.

Insert the piercing pin into the

container. Suspend the container

on an I.V. Pole.

Squeeze the drip chamber until

filled halfway.

Push down on the flow stop

open (priming position) the

cassette.

Ensure the CAIR (roller) clamp is

open prior to inserting cassette.

Invert the cassette approximately

45°.

WARNING: Failure to use the pressure-activated anti-siphon valve

may result in unrestricted flow if the cassette is not

properly installed in the pump.

When using a vented chamber, ALWAYS use an

air-eliminating filter OR set the air sensitivity to

either ON or 2 mL.
