Notes:
1. The HN cap is for temporary use only in applications that develop
less than 3000 V peak and at altitudes not greater than 45000ft.
(Leading-edge antennas and grounded wire antennas less than 12
feet long typically develop less than 3000 V peak.)
2. Fully insert the HN cap into the unused plug of the Y-cable.
3. Some RF radiation will be experienced through the HN cap.
• For provisional dual installations, the aircraft should be equipped with a
single 155-02988-XXXX cable. When the second KHF 1050 system is
installed at a later date, a Y-cable should be installed at that time. It is
recommended that the single cable be kept available in the aircraft for use
if one HF system is pulled out for service.
5.C.(7) Overbraid
A conductive overbraid is recommended over the sections of the wiring harness
that are located in areas that are not inside a metal fuselage. The primary
purpose of this overbraid is to protect the wiring harness from RF radiation off
the HF antenna. The overbraid is to be of a type designed for RFI/EMI
protection and may be made of either tinned copper or aluminum. Overbraid
that is applied in a spiral wrap configuration is not recommended.
Typically, this overbraid should be grounded at only the KAC 1052 end. If it is
necessary to overbraid the harness between the Receiver/Exciter and the
Controller, the overbraid should be grounded only at the KRX 1053 end.
5.C.(8) Connectors
Mating connectors for the KHF 1050 HF system components are identified on
the appropriate outline drawing. Associated connector installation kits are
specified in the
“DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION” section of this manual.
