The transition from the EPAP
to the IPAP
is triggered by the patient’s spontaneous breath-
ing alone. The pressure is decreased to the EPAP when the inspiration flow ends. In addi-
tion, a safety frequency can be activated. This ensures patients are still ventilated with
the set parameters (frequency, I:E) in case of respiratory arrest.
