Usage environments 

HVM Navigator User's Guide - Migration 

Time period for migration 

There is a difference with the time period to have an LPAR migrate between 

Shutdown mode and Concurrent Maintenance mode. 

Time period for Shutdown mode 

It takes about 5 minutes that an LPAR migrates in Shutdown mode though the 

time period varies depending on the type of guest OS running on the LPAR and 
the application software operating on the guest OS. 

Time period for Concurrent Maintenance mode 

The time period that an LPAR migrates in Concurrent Maintenance mode is a 

sum of the time periods for the following items. 

•

 

Backing up HVM configuration and retrieving HVM dump on the source and 
destination server blades 

•

 

Saving LPAR configuration on the source and destination LPARs 

•

 

Transferring memory data for the guest OS running on the source LPAR to 

the destination LPAR 

•

 

Suspending an LPAR during transferring the LPAR
