(6) Electromagnetic Interference
Using high-frequency or electrically-noisy machinery around the router can cause
reliability problems. The GR4000 itself also emits weak high-frequency noise, which
could affect television, radio, and transceivers situated within 30 m of it.
(7) Protection of cables
Ensure that all cables connected to the router are armored or otherwise protected so
that rodents or other cable-eating beasties do not gnaw through them.
Especially when folding the optic fiber cables into the circles/ovals, the radius should
be the following.
radius of long length: 100mm or more
radius of short length: 50mm or more
Also, the fabric of optic fiber cables should be tough enough to resist the mechanical
stresses caused by the folding, pulling, compressing or rubbing of cables frequently
done at the time of installation or the environmental stresses during installation.
(8) Spray of Chemical Agents
Protect a router from a spray of pesticide or antiseptic by covering it when treating a
room where it is located.
(9) Seismic Considerations
If the unit is to be installed where there is a chance of earthquakes, ensure that the
router, as well as any other cabinet or rack into which it is placed, is securely anchored.
Failure to consider the effects of a strong earthquake can result in damage to the unit
and physical injury to anyone nearby.
*
NOTE: The actual vibration inflicted upon a router during an earthquake can be
intensified by the architecture of the building and floor where the unit is located.
Generally it is said that the vibration felt on the fifth floor and up in a nine-story
building is intensified by two to three times what we would feel on the ground.
In a moderate to strong earthquake, this can cause racks to overturn and
unanchored equipment to bounce along the floor.

Installation Space
The GR4000 can be installed on a table or mounted in a 19-inch rack (cabinet rack).
Consider the following environmental factors when selecting the place where the router
is installed. Especially, the GR4000-80E2 and GR4000-160E2 must be installed in a
restricted access location, where access can be gained only by service personnel
through the use of a tool or lock and key, or other means of security, and is controlled
by the authority responsible for the location.
(1) Installation on a Desk or Table
Install power and interface cables on a flat and stable surface. Secure enough space
around the router considering the directions in the section 2.10 Cooling Considerations.
For locating a router, refer to the section 2.11 Device Noise.
WARNING: WHEN INSTALLING THE GR4000 OR GS4000 ON A DESK, LAY IT DOWN
HORIZONTALLY IN IT’S NORMAL ORIENTATION. IF YOU STAND IT
VERTICALLY OR LEAN IT AGAINST A WALL, IT COULD FALL AND BE
DAMAGED AND POTENTIALLY CAUSE INJURY.
