How to Configure TCP/IP under Windows XP
1. On your Windows desktop, select Start, Control Panel >
Network and Internet Connections. Select Network Con-
nections and from the following menu select the appro-
priate LAN connection. Select Properties.
2. If the TCP/IP protocol valid for your network interface
card is listed here, go to step 5. Otherwise, select
Install.
3. Select Protocol > Add.
4. From the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) list, select the
appropriate protocol and confirm with OK.
5. Then, select Internet Protocol, TCP/IP, and, subse-
quently, Properties.
6. Select Use the following IP address.
7. Enter the IP address and the subnet mask for your com-
puter and confirm your entries with OK.
8. If the process has been finished, click Close and restart
the computer. TCP/IP has been installed on your com-
puter.

• Ad-Hoc Network
An ad-hoc network is the designation for a number of computers
which form an independent wireless 802.11 WLAN together with a
wireless adapter. Ad-hoc networks work independently and with-
out access point on a peer-to-peer basis. The ad-hoc mode is also
referred to as IBSS mode (Independent Basic Service Set) and can
be sensibly used in small-scale networks, for instance if two
notebooks are to be networked without access point.
