Communications Method
Data
The instrument uses the character data and the decimal numeric data as the data depending on
the commands.
(1) Character data
The character data always starts with an alphabetical character and consists of alphabetical and
numerical characters. The character data accepts uppercase and lowercase letters and always
returns a response in uppercase letters from the instrument.
The long form and short form are available and both can be recognized just like the command
syntax.
Example:
:COMParator:MODE CONTinue
(2) Decimal numeric data
Three formats are used for numeric data: NR1, NR2, and NR3. The instrument recognizes the data
of both signed and unsigned numerical values. The data of unsigned numerical values are handled
as positive numerical values.
Numerical values are rounded to a decimal place that can be accepted by the instrument.
• NR1 integer data (Example: +12, −23, 34)
• NR2 decimal data (Example: +1.23, −23.45, 3.456)
• NR3 floating-point exponential representation data (Example: +1.0E-2, −2.3E+4)
The format consisting of all three types above is called the “NRf format”.
The instrument recognizes numeric data in the NRf format.
The response data is sent in the format specified for each command.
