Platelet Incubator Operation Manual
7.3
Cleaning the incubator
!
WARNING:
Follow all chemical handling and disposal requirements and procedures specified
by your organization. Use specific cleansers and cleaning supplies specified by
your organization. For more information, see Section 1, “Working safely.”
7.3.1
Cleaning the condenser grill
The condenser grill must be kept clean to ensure proper operation. Not cleaning the condenser grill
regularly can significantly reduce the life expectancy of the incubator.
In environments where the incubator is exposed to excessive lint or dust, the condenser grill may need to be
cleaned more frequently than stated on the preventive maintenance schedule.
On countertop models, the condenser grill is located on the rear of the incubator. On floor models, the grill
is located on the right side of the incubator. For more information, see Section 2, “Touring the incubator.”
!
WARNING:
Disconnect power to the incubator to eliminate the potential of electric shock
and injury from surrounding components.
!
CAUTION:
Cleaning the condenser grill requires that you disconnect power to the incubator.
Before disconnecting the power, take precautions to protect items in the
incubator from extended exposure to adverse temperatures.
Clean the condenser grill using a soft brush and a vacuum cleaner.
7.3.2
Cleaning the exterior
Clean the exterior with a soft cotton cloth and a non-abrasive liquid cleaner. Clean glass surfaces with a soft
cotton cloth and glass cleaner.
For PF4200 models, clean the vents in the base as needed to maintain airflow and prevent the motor from
overheating.
7.3.3
Cleaning the interior
Clean stainless steel surfaces with a general-purpose laboratory cleaner suitable for stainless steel. Clean
painted surfaces with mild detergent. Disinfect using a mild disinfectant solution.
For PC4200 models, clean the textured drawer surfaces with a soft brush. If you want to remove the
drawers for cleaning, see Section 7.4.1, “Maintaining drawers,”
for instructions.
7.3.4
Cleaning door gaskets
Clean door gaskets with a soft cloth and mild soap and water solution.
7.4
Maintaining moving parts on the built-in agitator
NOTE:
This section only applies to PC4200 models, which have a built-in agitator.
The agitator has many moving parts that must be kept clean and lubricated for proper operation.
After extended periods of usage, some parts may become worn and require replacement. To replace parts,
contact a qualified service technician.
