7.2
Testing and replacing batteries
!
WARNING:
►
Follow all chemical handling and disposal requirements and procedures specified
by your organization. For more information, see Section 1, “Working safely.”
►
Removing the access panel from the incubator exposes you to the risk of
electric shock. Regulations for your organization may require that only
designated service personnel remove the access panel. Follow the guidelines
for your organization.
!
CAUTION:
Testing and replacing the backup batteries may require that power be
disconnected from the incubator, which may affect the chamber temperature.
Before disconnecting the power, take precautions to protect items in the
incubator from extended exposure to adverse temperatures.
For information about replacing the battery on the chart recorder, refer to the Chart Recorder Operation Manual.
7.2.1
Checking and replacing batteries for the i.Center monitoring system
NOTE:
This section only applies to i.Series models.
The monitoring system for i.Series models has visual indicators for the status of the backup batteries. On
the HOME screen, the Battery charge level displays information about the remaining life of the batteries.
If the batteries deplete so that the remaining life is two hours or less, the Low Battery alarm flashes on the
HOME screen. If the batteries are missing or close to completely depleted, the No Battery alarm flashes on
the HOME screen. Replace the batteries when either of these alarms activate, or if the batteries have been
in use for one year. The incubator uses
six non-rechargeable 1.5 V D-cell alkaline (or equivalent) batteries.
To check for battery alarms
►
On the monitoring system, on the HOME screen, check if either the Low Battery or No Battery alarm
is flashing. If either alarm is present, replace the batteries.
To test the backup batteries
1
Disconnect the incubator from AC power. The display should continue to display information, although
it may be harder to read. If the display is blank, replace the batteries.
2
Connect the incubator to AC power.
To replace the backup batteries
1
Turn off the incubator and disconnect it from AC power.
2
On the top of the incubator, remove the access panel to access the batteries.
3
Remove all six batteries and replace them with six fresh batteries. Avoid reusing any of them that may
have some charge remaining.
4
Install the access panel.
7.2.2
Testing and replacing the battery for the power failure alarm
NOTE:
This section only applies to Horizon Series models.
Regularly test whether the backup battery is functioning, and replace it if the test fails or if the battery
has been in use for one year. The power failure alarm system uses one non-rechargeable 9 V
alkaline (or
equivalent) battery.
