Section 4 Theory of Operation

4.6.2.10 Watch Dog

The Watch Dog circuit receives 1ms pulses from the Main Controller through J6-26.
The One-shot is configured with a 100ms output pulse, much longer than the input. The
supplied input pulses are much quicker than the time-out of the one-shot. This keeps the
one-shot in the unstable state as long as the input pulses are present. When the Main
Controller fails, the input pulses to this one-shot stop, allowing it to go to its inactive
state, which indicates a MC failure to the CPLD. An active HIGH is sent to U16-4. The
clock supplied to U16-5 is 1Hz, which will flash DS1 when in Life Support mode.

4.6.2.11 Transmitter Status Memory

Three states of the transmitter are held in relay memory in the event of a transmitter
shut down due to an operational problem.

The transmitter ON/OFF state, Drive switch position, and remote enable/disable status
are held in their last state by latching relays K1, K2 and K3.

4.6.2.12 Control Panel Interface

The commands from the front of the transmitter at the Control Panel pass through the
Life Support board. The inputs are clamped with diodes to eliminate transients and are
opto-coupled at U46-U48 before being sent to the Main Controller. These opto-coupled
signals are also sent to the CPLD for processing.

4.6.2.13 Light bar Interface

The CPLD will drive the Light Bar above the GUI to indicate the top level condition of
the transmitter. Output driver U40, receives the red or green command from the CPLD.
Green indicates everything is normal, red indicates a summary fault, and yellow
(amber) indicates the transmitter is in Life Support mode.

4.6.2.14 RF Detector Inputs

The power samples for Forward, Reflected and Driver are buffered on the Life Support
board before being sent out to the remote connector.
