4.2.5
Cabinet Splitter
For transmitters utilizing multiple PA Cabinets, a cabinet splitter is used. The cabinet
splitter takes a single output of the Driver Module and splits it for each PA cabinet. Up
to five PA Cabinets can be supplied.
4.2.6
Low Voltage Power Supplies
The Control Cabinet contains redundant Low Voltage Power Supplies that /- 15
volts at 5 amps and +7 volts at 13 amps. The two supplies are diode “or”ed together on
the Low Voltage Distribution board. They supply voltage to the Main Controller, Life
Support and System I/O boards.
4.3
Control System
The DiamondCD™ Control System is actually two control systems working in parallel.
The basic control system, the Life Support system, is composed of discrete input/output
(I/O), a discrete parallel interconnect bus and is discrete logic based. The Life Support
system handles the basic operation, control and monitoring of the transmitter.
The other control system, the Main Controller, is composed of serial I/O, a Controller
Area Network (CAN) serial bus and is microprocessor based. This microprocessor
based system has the complexity to quickly diagnose any problem and has the
processing power to make decisions to keep the transmitter on the air as well as display
all data necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot the transmitter.
The transmitter can be operated both locally and remotely by the discrete logic based
Life Support system. The Parallel Remote circuits are directly interfaced to the Life
Support system. This discrete parallel remote control interface contains all the critical
and basic input/output functions to operate and monitor the transmitter.
The Control System design is based on a distributed intelligence architecture. At the
lowest level, the Module Controller protects the RF amplifier and reports to the Main
Controller via serial link. The PA Cabinet Controller protects the PA Cabinet and
reports to the Main Controller via serial link. The Main Controller protects the rest of
the transmitter and reports via serial link to the GUI. The Life Support system provides
limited control and monitoring in case the Main Controller or Cabinet Controller fails.
Parallel remote control remains active in the Life Support mode. All the Controllers in
the different levels of control are connected with a Controller Area Network bus (CAN
bus), and the parallel ON/OFF/interlock line.
The components in the Control Unit slide-out drawer will be discussed here. They
include the Main Controller, the Life Support board and the GUI. For information on
