SureFire 512H Battery Backup
In order to properly use the SureFire Battery Backup, you will also need to purchase a 12 Volt deep cycle
battery. These devices will be connected to give you up to 8 hours of power to your Harman® unit.
You will need:
• SureFire Battery Backup
• 12 Volt Deep Cycle Battery
• Screwdriver
• Appropriate size wrenches
Instructions to hook up SureFire 512H Battery Backup to Harman unit:
1. Decide where you will place the SureFire 512H Backup and 12 Volt Battery. Some people prefer
to keep it out of sight. If you do not keep it near the stove, you can opt to place it up to 25 feet
away from the Harman® stove or insert.
2. Connect the SureFire 512H Backup to the 12 Volt Battery ensuring you have positive terminal to
positive terminal and negative terminal to negative terminal.
3. Plug the SureFire 512H Backup into a 120 Volt/60 HZ grounded convenience outlet.
4. Allow the SureFire 512H Backup to charge 4-6 hours.
5. Run an appropriate size grounded extension cord to the unit. Make sure it is no longer than 25
feet long and has a minimum of 16 gauge wire. If you place the backup and battery right beside ore
behind the unit, you will not need an extension cord.
6. Plug your Harman stove/insert in to the SureFire 512H Backup or cord end and operate as
usual.
NOTE: If you are expecting a power outage, you will save battery life by switching the stove from automatic
ignition to manual ignition after the unit is lit. The only difference you will notice is that if the stove achieves
your desired room temperature, it will not turn itself off, but rather just stay on a minimum burn.
NOTE: If the power is out for longer than the battery life, smoke leakage may still occur unless your stove
has been safely shut down.
Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
Harman® has tested and approved the following UPS battery backups for use with Harman pellet stoves
that are Rev E or later software which were available starting November 2010. These UPS battery backups
are available at office supply stores and online:
• APC (American Power Conversion) mode #BE750G
• TrippLite model INTERNET750U
Instructions to hook up a UPS Battery Backup to Harman unit:
1. Follow the instructions from the UPS battery backup manufacturer that comes with the backup.
When power is lost, a fully charged UPS will power a combustion blower only shut-down. Your
appliance will pulse the blower every few seconds to clear exhaust until the fire is out.
NOTE: The UPS provides shut-down only. It will give about 2 hours of power and is not intended for con-
tinued operation.
