1.2 RST Onboard Soft RAID
1.2.1 Overview
The Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) onboard RAID card, integrated the AHCI and RAID
programs, is mainly used for Intel chipset for disk management, disk status viewing and other
applications. The RST is embedded on the south bridge of the motherboard and provides
performance and reliability support for systems using SATA disks. When using multiple disks, you
can use the RAID technology to protect data and improve data read and write performance.
The Intel RST onboard RAID card supports two operating modes: AHCI mode and RAID mode.
The SATA controller can manage up to six disks. Note that the server can host up to five disks. For
details about the interface positions, see the user guide.
1.2.2 Function
1. Switching Between Operating Modes
The Intel RST onboard RAID card supports the following operating modes:
•
AHCI mode (default): This mode supports NCQ (Local Command Queue), which increases
the read/write speed of SATA disks. The system uses physical disks directly to store data.
