Drive Mechanism
The drive mechanism is fitted with three motors providing:
– precision drive of the headwheel
– direct drive of the capstan and the reels
– drive of the cassette mechanism and tape threading/unthreading
system
The specified position numbers (Pos. …) are also used in the exploded
views.

Note on the application of lubricants:
– Always use the specified oil and grease. Other lubricants may cause
malfunctions in the mechanism.
– Be careful to keep the points/surfaces to be lubricated free of dust or
foreign bodies.
2. Cleaning
Methyl alcohol .................................................... commonly available
Cleaning cloth (chamois or
soft lintfree cloth) ................................................ commonly available
2.1 Cleaning the Tape Drum (Fig. 2.1)
Hold the tape drum and clean it with a chamois or soft lintfree cloth
moistened with methyl alcohol. Wipe in the horizontal direction.
Warning: Wiping in the vertical direction or applying excessive force
may cause damage to the video heads.

2.2 Cleaning the Tape Path and Reel Driving System
Clean the pinch roller, capstan, tape guides, full erase head, R/P head,
the reels, pulley, belt drive (pulley flanged to capstan motor), belt, with
a chamois or soft lintfree cloth soaked with methyl alcohol.
Note on the use of cleaners:
– Always use the specified cleaners. Other cleaners may cause
damage to the parts to be cleaned.
