REPLACING THE SPRAYING NOZZLE
During use, especially with latex paints, dust and dirt in the paint used under high pressure will cause
an increase of the opening and the consumption, and the stream width will decrease. It is easy to de-
termine the condition of the nozzle, watching the stream width. With wear of the tip, the stream width
will be reduced. The new tip will cover with its stream of long, narrow rectangle with rounded corners.
With wear, the covered shape is becoming oval. A completely worn nozzle sprays round stream. If the
stream width is reduced to approx. 2/3 of its original size, the nozzle should be considered used.
Note: In order to minimize the nozzle wear, preferably before each use filter the paint, using a
bag-strainer, and apart from that, regularly clean all filters and strainers.
Replace nozzles before they become too worn. Worn tips cause losses of paint, excessive spraying,
make it difficult to start painting and even reduce effectiveness of painting. If the tip has the maximum
allowable size for a given sprayer, with wear the fluid collection speed exceeds the speed supported
by the device. If using the maximum permissible size of the tip, the pump does not supply sufficient
quantities of the substance, it is known that the tip is excessively worn.
CLEANING
After the end of the working day the substance in the device should be recovered and the device
should be thoroughly cleaned. This will avoid drying out of the substance in the pump or hose.
CAUTION: Under no circumstances it is allowed to let the spray substance dry out in the pump. If the
substance dries in the pump or hose, the pump will have to be totally dismantled and reassembled, and
the hose will have to be replaced with a new one.
1. Reduce pressure in the system, applying the pressure release procedure.
2. Remove the tip and the tip cover, and soak in a suitable solvent for the spray substance.
3. Rinse the suction pipe and place it in the bucket with a suitable solvent to rinse. Generally it
will be water (for water-based materials), mineral spirits (for oil-based substances) or varnish
thinner (for varnishes). Some substances, e.g. composite materials and epoxy resins, may re-
quire special irrigation fluids.
4. To recover the substance present in the pump, place a drain pipe in the bucket with pure
substance for spraying. With the overflow valve still open, turn on the device, and turn the
pressure control knob clockwise, just enough for the pump to begin working. Observe the
substance coming out from the drain pipe until the substance coming out will start to thin. This
indicates that irrigation fluid is being pumped. Now move the drain pipe into the bucket for
waste and continue rinsing until clean irrigation fluid starts coming out.
5. Turn off the device and turn the pressure control knob to minimum again. Close the overflow
valve.
6. In order to recover the substance present in the system, after removing the tip and tip cover,
aim the gun into the bucket with the substance for spraying, all the while holding the trigger
open.
