Tensioning
Sanding Belt
The sanding belt tension will change over time
as the sanding belt wears and the user tends to
apply more pressure during usage. A belt that is
not tensioned properly becomes inefficient, wan-
ders back and forth, or creates excessive wear on
your machine.
The optimal settings for sanding belt tension often
change, so use this as a guide to help determine
the right belt tension.
Symptoms of Low Belt Tension
Symptoms of High Belt Tension
Tracking Problems: A loose belt will tend to
wander to one side and/or the other. This may
also be a sign of a worn/stretched belt, in which
case, it may be time to replace it.
Belt Slippage: If you notice the belt slipping dur-
ing operation or the printing on the back of the
belt is highly worn, this is likely a sign that your
belt is loose.
Tracking Problems: A belt that is too tight will
also cause tracking problems, although the belt
will usually tend to track to one side, not wander
back and forth.
Machine Stops Quickly: When properly ten-
sioned, the machine will turn a few revolutions
after the power has been turned
OFF. If your ma-
chine stops quickly after being turned
OFF, this
may be a sign of a sanding belt that is too tight.
Belt Wears Prematurely: An over-tensioned
sanding belt will stretch and become weak, short-
ening the lifespan of the belt.

Adjusting Miter
Gauge Angle
The miter gauge angle can be adjusted 45° to the
right or left, keeping angled workpieces accurate.
To adjust miter gauge angle:
1. Loosen miter gauge lock knob, then adjust
gauge until pointer displays desired angle on
scale (see
Figure 18).
