Now to the LS1 page:
Remote Connection - connecting the speakers to the usb interface is easy, one cable from the
interface to the first speaker and another cable from the first to the second speaker. Now the
only thing we need to tell the system is, if we have plugged the cable from the usb interface into
the left or into the right speaker (both can possibly be the „first“ speaker connected, which then
feeds the signal through to the other speaker). If the system is told whether we have connected
the left or right speaker first, each speaker knows which side of the stereosignal it is supposed to
playback from the AES/EBU or USB stream.
Excursion limiter - this function is a safety net for the individual drivers in the speakers, it
prevents the driver from a possible damage caused by signal that is too powerful. Instead of
putting a limiter on the audio signal, like it was done with analog systems, we now have the
possibility to simply control the maximum possible excursion of the driver. This means as long as
the excursion limiter does not come into action (which will be indicated by the LED inside the LS1
blinking) there is no audible effect of this protection circuit happening to the signal whatsoever.
For hifi use you may safely turn off the excursion limiter. Signals of mastered music are rarely
powerful enough to harm loudspeakers.
Warning indication - this simply turns off the warning indication of the blinking power LEDs, when
the excursion limiter or other safety systems like clip or heat limiters set in. So even though the
warning is off, the actual excursion limiter can still be active, you just won´t recognise it visually.
Phase correction - if you switch off the overall phase correction of the complete LS1 system,
you can minimize the system inherent latency. This can be necessary in a studio situation, but
doesn´t matter at all in a pure listening/playback situation. For hifi use it is thus recommended to
always leave the phase correction on (Accurate).
