PREFERENCES
If you have the LS1 remote software running on your computer and you open up your prefe-
rences via the menu, you have easy access to the settings of all parameters to control your LS1.
These settings are spread over five pages, which each combine different parts of the system,
these pages are:
General / LS1 / Firmware / Sub-Woofer / Remote
Remember that if you change a setting and like to keep that as your new standard (for instance, 30 or 45
degree toe-in angle), you need to click „Store current settings“ in the firmware tab before you quit the
software. For more information see the firmware tab page of this manual.
Let´s start with General:
Midi connection settings - here you can choose the input & output midi driver which establishes
the connection from the remote software to the dsp inside the speaker electronics.
Display zero reference - here the reference levels 1 and 2 can either be set or restored to default.
As mentioned this parameter is not needed for hifi use. If you are afraid to unintentionally have
changed those settings you can use the „Restore default“ button to reset them anytime.
The default „0“ level is equal to the international reference used for movies. Normal mastering
levels for nineties pop music are 6 dB higher, and should normally be played at a „-6“ position.
Technically speaking, a reference noise of -20 dBFSrms gives an acoustical level at the
listening seat of 85 dBC. This is called ‚K20‘. Nineties pop music was mastered at „K14“. Since
then pop music masters have become considerably louder and you might need to adjust your
volume control to lower levels than -6 for a comfortable listening level. Results are dependent on
room acoustics, so if you need the 0 position of the volume control to be a true reference, please
measure the playback level of the reference noise in your room and program this as your
‚reference‘ level in the software.
Dim - this lets you choose between a dim (temporarily attenuation) value of either -10dB or
-20dB
Sim - this lets you choose between the simulated sound of a ported bass-reflex or a small size
bookshelf type speaker with a low-cut of 80Hz, when using the Sim button.
