8. The Mute buttons mute the incoming signal. While the button „mute“ mutes both channels at
the same time, the seperate speakers can also be muted individually for left and right via „L“ and
„R“ buttons. Pressing the button again deactivates the mute function.
9. The Zoom button raises the signal by 20dB, pressing it again deactivates the function and
brings the signal back down.
10. The Dim button on the contrary lowers the signal, until it is deactivated by pressing the
button once again. The signal can be attenuated by either 10dB or 20dB, which can be set in the
preferences (-> see following chapter).
11. The Sim function activates a digital simulation of either a ported speaker system, or a small
box shelf type speaker, which can be set in the preferences. This can help the audio engineer
determine how a mix „translates“ to other types of speaker systems. For your home listening
pleasure you want to make sure, that this button is off!
12. The Mono function sums both sides of the stereosignal into one mono signal, which is then
played back identically and at equal level on both speakers. If you want to listen to a „real“ mono
source, you can additionally press either the „L“ or „R“ button in the mute section and mute one
of the speakers. You will now hear both sides of the stereosignal mixed and played back by one
speaker.
13. The S (for Side) function is the opposite of the mono function. It allows you to listen to the
side signal, which is the difference between left and right.
( -> again this a feature for the pro user, especially used in mastering for example, where sometimes the
music is even processed in mid/side channels rather than left/right. With the mono and side buttons it´s
now very easy for the engineer to set up his processors accordingly.)
(-> This function offers a great tool while setting up your LS1‘s. Listen to the mono sum of your music in
turn on the left and right speaker and move your loudspeakers until both sound identical.)
