Raising and Lowering
Crushing Hazard
Keep all persons away from wings and
openers during raising and lowering. Openers
and wings will cut or crush anything beneath
them, and can result in serious injury or death.
Falling Hazard
Do not stand on tires when implement is raised
or lowered. Wheels may have little or no weight
on them, and may turn suddenly and without
warning if used as a step, resulting in serious injury.
The standard 3-point hitch will raise and lower the
planter.
Lift Assist Hydraulics (Option)
Planter Damage Risk
Great Plains strongly recommends following
the sequential order of raising and lowering the
planter to prevent lateral dragging of wing
components which will cause planter damage
if not operated properly.
PL5200 Planters configured with the optional lift
assist, raising and lowering the planter relies on the
lower link arms of the tractor in the front, and the lift
assist hydraulic cylinders in the rear. To raise or lower
the planter, you will need to use a combination of the
in-cab hydraulic tractor circuit for the rear and the 2-
point hitch for the front.
Raising Planter with Lift Assist
1. Extend the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
raise the planter. Keep the tractor lever extended
until the rear of the planter is fully raised.
2. Set the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
“Neutral”.
3. If necessary, install the lift assist lock cylinders.
4. Raise the front of the planter using the 2-point
hitch.
Lowering Planter with Lift Assist
1. Remove the lift assist lock cylinders, if necessary.
2. Lower the front of the planter using the 2-point
hitch.
3. Retract the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
lower the planter. Keep the tractor lever retracted
until the rear of the planter is fully lower.
4. Set the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
“Neutral”.

Folding and Unfolding
Pinch Point, Crushing, and Moving
Hazards
Moving parts can pinch or crush causing
serious injury or death. Keep all persons away
when folding or unfolding the planter.
Planter Damage Risk
Do not fold or unfold without first raising planter
completely or damage will occur.
Unfolding with 3-Point Hitch
1. Using the 3-Point hitch, fully raise the planter.
2. Extend the tractor hydraulic fold lever to unfold
the machine. Keep lever extended until wings are
fully unfolded.
3. Set the tractor hydraulic fold lever to “Neutral”.
4. Remove the wing flex lock pins located on at wing
pivots.
5. Install wing lock pins on each end of toolbar
coupling.
6. Lower the planter into field position for planting.
Unfolding with 2-Point Hitch
1. Remove the lift assist lock cylinders, if necessary.
1. Extend the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
raise the rear of the planter to ensure the rear of
the planter is fully raised.
1. Set the tractor hydraulic lift assist lever to
“Neutral”.
1. Using the 2-point hitch, raise the front of the
planter.
2. Extend the tractor hydraulic fold lever to unfold
the machine. Keep lever extended until wings are
fully unfolded.
3. Set the tractor hydraulic fold lever to “Neutral”.
4. Remove the wing flex lock pins located on at wing
pivots.
5. Install wing lock pins on each end of toolbar
coupling.
6. Lower the planter for field operations. Lower the
2-point hitch first, followed by retracting tractor
hydraulic lift assist lever to lower the rear of the
planter.
Folding with 3-Point Hitch
1. Raise the planter using the 3-point hitch.
2. Remove the both wing lock pins on toolbar
coupling.
