Disassembly:
• Slide the adaptor tool into the upper retainer jaws of the C-clamp
valve spring compressor and lock firmly into place by tightening
the thumbscrew adjustment.
• The C-clamp compressor may now be used in its normal operat-
ing manner to compress the valve spring.
NOTE:
If the valve spring retainer and valve stem keepers are
stuck, it may be necessary to tap the outer portion of the retainer
with a drift before attempting to compress the valve spring. Take
care not to score the cam follower bore or the valve stem.
• Once the valve spring is compressed, the valve stem keepers will
be exposed through the access ports of the adaptor tool. Use a
thin magnetic probe or screwdriver to remove them.
• Slowly release the C-clamp compressor and disassemble the
valve assembly.
Re-assembly:
• After inserting the valve in its guide, apply a small amount of lubri-
cating grease to the valve stem collet grooves (this will facilitate
installation of the valve retainer collets).
• Compress the valve spring and retainer with the C-clamp adaptor
tool.
• Using a magnetic probe, insert the collets through the access
ports of the adaptor tool. The grease previously applied to the
valve stem grooves will help trap and hold the valve stem collets
in place.
• Slowly release the C-clamp compressor.
• This tool is made of high density polyethylene so that it will not
scratch the cam follower bores in the cylinder head. Hammering
or prying on the adaptor tool will destroy or deform it. Use only per
instruction.
