NOTICE:
W hen fasteners are rem oved, alw ays reinstall them at the same location from w hich they w ere rem oved. If a
fasten er needs to be replaced, use the correct part num ber fastener for that application. I f the correct part num ber fastener is not
available, a fastener o f equal size and strength (or stronger) m ay be used. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread
locking com pound will be called out. The correct torque value m ust be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above
conditions are not follow ed, parts or system dam age could result.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Vehicles using the H R 100T and H R 110-M D air
conditioning com pressor m ay have differences betw een
installations in their m ounting brackets, drive system s, pulleys,
connector assem blies and system capacities, none of w hich
w ill affect the follow ing O verhaul Procedures.
T here are tw o (2) com pressor clutch driver designs
w hich will affect the overhaul procedure to be used. The four
(4) pole clutch (Fig. 1) and the 6 pole clutch (Fig. 3) m ust be
identified prior to starting overhaul procedure.
W hen servicing the com pressor, it is essential that steps
be taken to prevent dirt or foreign m aterial from getting on or
into the com pressor parts and system during disassem bly or
reassem bly. C lean tools and clean work area are very im portant
for proper service. The com pressor connection areas and the
ex terio r o f the com pressor should be cleaned off as m uch as
possible prior to any “on-vehicle” repairs or rem oval o f the
com pressor for w orkbench service. The parts m ust be kept
clean at all tim es and any parts to be reassem bled should be
cleaned w ith trichloroethane, naphtha, Stoddard solvent,
kerosene or equivalent solvent and blow n dry with dry air.
W hen necessary to use a cloth on any part, it should be o f a
non-lint producing type.
The operations described in this m anual are based on
b ench overhaul w ith the com pressor rem oved from the vehicle.
H ow ever, som e service operations depending on
accessibility o f the com pressor, m ay be perform ed w ithout
rem oving the com pressor from the vehicle. T hese on-vehicle
operations are also identified in this m anual.

All replacem ent com pressors will be shipped from
Harrison with 8 oz. o f oil. W hen the com pressor is rem oved
from the vehicle for servicing, drain oil from both the defective
com pressor and the new replacem ent com pressor. M easure the
amount rem oved from the defective com pressor: if less than 1
oz. (30 ml) is drained from the old com pressor, add 2 oz. (60 m l)
to the new compressor. If m ore than 1 oz. (30 m l) is drained
from the old com pressor, add the sam e am ount to the new
compressor.
