Inspection Intervals, Main Inspection (= e.g. GB: MOT)
Please note the following check-up intervals.
Inspection of tyres: Once a year; after changing the tyres, the wheel bolts have to be checked and fastened
after 40-50 km driving. Please check tyre tread for any exterior damage, foreign particles and cracks. Please
ensure that the depth of tyre tread is sufficient and according to the manufacturer’s regulations. By German
law a depth of at least 1.6 mm is prescribed. In winter depth of tyre tread should not be less than 3-4 mm. If
you register a car/trailer combination with 100 km/h speed limit, your trailer tyres must not be older than 5
years; please note the information that is printed on your tyres: The manufacturing date usually is printed on
the side of your tyres and is indicated as a DOT-number with 4 digits that represent the calendar week and
year of manufacturing, for example DOT 1609 = calendar week 16, year 2009.
Inspection of wheel bolts: Please frequently check the wheel bolts – we recommend every 3 months,
especially when you are travelling often on demanding, damaged and winding roads.
Inspection of brakes and accumulating mechanisms: once a year; before each trip please check, if brakes
and accumulating mechanisms work properly.
Main Inspection (MOT): Please have your trailer checked according to the prescribed MOT regulations and
checking intervals.
Grease coupling head (grease gun): Please frequently grease the coupling head of your trailer. We
recommend greasing every 10.000 km or once every 6 months.
The accumulating mechanism at minimum should be greased twice a year. Concerning the next coming
inspection, we recommend to define the average coupling head height of the mainly used pulling vehicles
and then to adjust the trailers average coupling head height accordingly. By this you will gain a much better
road performance of your trailer and you can reduce wear and tear of your wheel brakes.
Any inspections and any inspection that is done to prepare a transfer of your trailer to a new owner always
should be executed in a specialized company!
