Segregation certainty
Basically, the reliability of segregation depends on
● Constant flow of animals
A high level of reliability in segregation firstly depends upon a uniform flow of
animals.
- Low frequency of animals will ensure a high degree of reliability in respect
of segregation.
- High frequency of animals will reduce the reliability of segregation.
- An irregular flow of animals (e.g. cows that stand still or move unusually
slowly and also trotting cows) reduces the reliability of segregation.
● The design of the entrance and exit area in the segregation system.
For further information, please refer to:
Design guidelines
● the behaviour of the animals,
● the setting and position of the light scanners,
● the setting and position of the identification frame,
● logical settings in the herd management program,
● speed of the segregation gate
Training phase / familiarisation phase
At the beginning, the animals have to go through a training phase in to get them
used to the segregation feature, especially the closing of the entrance gate.
It is only possible to comment on the reliability of segregation, therefore, once this
familiarization phase of approximately 2 weeks has ended.
