Connecting a Host Computer to a Hydran 201C

i

Controller in a Local

Network, Using an RS-232 Cable

The supplied RS-232 cable (1.8 m [6 ft]) can be connected to any H201C

i

in a local

network to allow a host computer to communicate with all H201C

i

’s and Hydran 201T

i

’s

in the network.

The RS-232 cable can be used as is; in the case of a permanent installation, you can also
use a commercial null-modem cable (Rx and Tx wires are crossed) with female DB-9
connectors at both ends. Cut and splice the cable in order to be able to run it into the conduit
fitting. These cables are available in lengths up to 7.7 m (25 ft).

You can also make your own null-modem cable by using the same type of cable as for the
RS-485 link. Wire the female DB-9 connector as shown in Table 9-2 on page 9-10.

Verifying RS-232 and RS-485 Communications

Proceed as described in Section 7.2.3 on page 7-4.
