5. WORKING WITH MECHANICAL VENTILATOR
5.1 LUNG COMPLIANCE LOOPS WITH MECHANICAL VENTILATOR
For this simulation exercise, configure the mechanical
ventilator with the following parameters.
•
HAL's theoretical weight is 75 Kg (165 lbs)
•
Ventilation Type: Volume controlled
•
Respiratory Rate: 12 breaths/min
•
VT: 550 mL
•
Flow: 40 Liter/min
After completing the setup of the mechanical ventilator,
proceed to prepare HAL for this exercise.
HAL's own respiratory
rate within the UNI software needs to be set to zero.
Then,
intubate HAL with the recommended ETT size. After intubation,
connect the mechanical ventilator's patient circuit to HAL.
After performing this exercise's necessary
setup, let us begin to experiment with the lung
compliance and lung resistance loops of HAL.
The following screenshots are a side by side comparison
between HAL's vital signs (Left), as shown on the UNI software,
and the mechanical ventilator's monitor screen (Right).
NOTE: Values on individual mechanical ventilators may vary.
