Safety instructions
WARNING
It is the responsibility of the owner/skipper:
To check the fire prevention equipment is in conformity with the builder’s instructions and
the regulations from your country.
To replace the fire prevention equipment if it is out of date or discharged, with
extinguishing apparatus of an equal or greater capacity.
To indicate to crew members:
o
The location of the fire prevention equipment and how it works
o
The location of the access point for the engine compartment (situated on the front
side of the main companionway ladder).
To ensure that the fire prevention equipment is easily accessible when the vessel is
occupied.
To keep the bilges cleaned and to ensure that there is no gas or fuel vapors.
Never:
Obstruct the passages to the emergency exits (deck hatches).
Obstruct the safety controls (gas stopcock(s), fuel stopcock(s), electrical switches).
Obstruct the storage containing the extinguishers.
Leave the vessel unoccupied with a stove or heating turned on.
Use a gas lamp in the vessel.
Fill up a fuel tank or change a gas bottle when the engine, stove or heating are turned on.
Smoke when handling fuels or gas.
Put up curtains hanging freely nearly the stove or other open flame device.
Store combustible products in the engine compartment.
WARNING
If a CO2 extinguisher is installed, the following information must be displayed close to its
location:
“This extinguisher contains CO2 – Only use it to combat fires of an electrical origin or
galley fires. To avoid asphyxia after discharge, leave the zone immediately. Ventilate
prior to entering the zone.”
After extinguishing a fire, do not open the engine compartment immediately afterwards so as
to avoid any leakage of toxic fumes and the spillage of incandescent products
