Checking the Loading Ramps:
Check the platform, ramps, and arms power folding functions at each landing in the
system. Run the lift both folded and unfolded and check that it slows in corners and
stops at all landings while checking the conveyance travel clearances. Check the storage
positions by carefully running the lift to those locations. Do not allow the lift to pass the
storage position. A dimple on the lower tube represents the position of the center of the
lower carriage in the storage location. If you run into any difficulties with clearances or
setting the landings, call Garaventa Field Service and Technical Support Center.
Refer to the
Maintenance
and
Repair
section of this manual for limit cam adjustment. It is
critical that the limit cams are correctly positioned and that their positions are checked to
ensure consistent stopping at landings.
In some cases, it will be necessary to adjust the loading ramps. If the actuator lowers the
wrong ramp, refer to the lift order form to confirm the required ramp designation or to the
electrical schematics in your installation package or call Garaventa and ask for technical
support. Ramp designation cannot be changed in the field. To change the ramp
designation, the configuration chip in the lift must be changed.
Caution: Remember to check the conveyance’s travel clearances and, do
not let the unit run past the upper limit position.
Caution: Do not ride on the unit until the mounting fasteners are tightened.
When you are satisfied that the lift clearances are correct, tighten all strut fasteners.
If the landing is uneven and the loading ramp does not rest properly on the floor, adjust
the unfolded position of the platform.
Turn the two adjustment bolts on the inside edge of the bottom of the hanger. Both bolts
must be adjusted together to ensure that the platform is properly supported. On
Automatic Type Platforms, adjust the Power-Fold mechanism as well as these same
bolts. Refer to the Repair section in this Manual. If adjustment of the Conveyance
internal cams and switches is necessary, contact Garaventa Technical support for help.
Do not adjust switches or cams unless you mark their original position first.
Test all lift options and safeties. Make sure that the lift will pass all required local
inspection procedures.
Do not wait until the day of inspection to check the lift systems.
Checking the Overspeed Arrestor:
One important safety device, which is frequently misunderstood, is the Overspeed
Arrestor. This is located at the bottom end of the system under the triangular cover. The
Arrestor must be checked before inspection. It must also be “tuned” to keep noise to a
minimum. This must be done with extreme care otherwise the lower rope will be
damaged.
