connected to the carriage. To achieve this, move the drive motor and gearbox assembly
closer to the tube entry side of the drive box by adjusting the rope tensioning system
using a 3/8” ratchet. NOTE: Always loosen the lock nuts on the drive adjustment screw
first. Place a 3/8” ratchet in the socket on the outside of the Drive Cabinet and move the
drive closer to the tubes. It may then be necessary to lock the Arrestor in place and turn
the hand-crank in the down direction to gain a little more.
Installing the Drive and Rope systems (Compact Drive):
We recommend that the rope systems for the Artira Compact Drive be installed before
mounting the Drive on the end of the tubes. The ropes can be installed with the Drive in
place however, this makes it more difficult to guide the ropes into the tube. There is also
a higher risk that you may contaminate the signal systems with grease.
Install the upper rope splice-end first into the bottom end of the upper tube. Use a
screwdriver or wrench to pull the rope all the way up the tube system by inserting it
behind the splice connection through the slot in the upper tube and using it as a handle.
Keep an extra screwdriver and a small
quick clamp
in your tool belt for later. Get help to
guide the rope into the tube. Once the rope reaches the end of the slot, take the extra
screwdriver out of your tool belt and insert it through the slot in the upper tube further
down the system. Pull more of the upper rope up the system until it comes out of the
tube at the upper end. Continue to pull the rope up until there is about 1.5 meters
protruding outside the tube. Use the
quick clamp
to hold it there while you secure the
rope from siding back out again.
Tie the upper rope in place with string or use some other method to prevent it from
sliding back down into the tubes.
Remove the rope lever from the lower rope and pass the lever end into the top end of the
lower tube. Push the whole rope into the tube. Allow it to slide into the tube carefully.
Do
not let it go.
When you reach the splice end, connect it to the upper rope and allow the
Figure 18.
The rope levers
are shown in position to be
connected to the upper
carriage (superimposed in
dotted lines). Notice the
sliding contact between the
rope levers.
