Squeeze the lever until it touches the cutter/sealer body and hold it
there. This compresses the tube and activates the sealer, causing the
small indicator light to illuminate (see Figure 15-6). You do not
have to squeeze hard to cut and seal the tubing.

After the indicator light turns off, continue to hold the jaws closed
for one second. Release the lever.

Gently pull the tubing out of the colored insulation sleeve. The
tubing should separate easily.

After separating the tubing, inspect the integrity of the seal.

When not using the cutter/sealer head, store it by inserting the lever
into the opening of the mobile unit and placing the head in the
cradle as shown in Figure 15-7.

Sealing Only

Follow the above “Cutting and Sealing” steps but do not use the colored
insulation sleeve. Place bare tubing in the jaw of the cutter/sealer head
instead. Using the cutter/sealer on bare tubing seals the tubing but does
not cut it. Sealing takes approximately one second.

Splash Guards

Gambro BCT provides clear plastic splash guards that fit over the
cutter/sealer head to protect you in case the tubing ruptures during
sealing. The splash guard clips directly onto the cutter/sealer head.

Warning:

DO NOT release the Seal Safe system lever or try

to separate the tubing until 1 second after the indicator light
turns off. Releasing the lever sooner could result in an
inadequate seal, subjecting the blood product to non-sterile
conditions.

Note:

Use the splash guards according to your standard safety

procedures when operating the Seal Safe system.
