A.2 Paper Quality
Paper Type
The following paper types are recommended for use with the ADF:
Woodfree paper
Wood containing paper
PPC paper (recycled paper)
Plastic card
When documents of a paper type other than those listed above are scanned, perform the
test-scan with a same paper type first to check if the document can be scanned without
problem.
Paper Weight
The following paper weights can be used with the ADF:
40 to 209 g/m

(11 to 56 lb)
For A8 size, 127 to 209 g/m
2
(34 to 56 lb)
For plastic cards (long edge feed only), 0.76 mm (0.029 in.) or less (including
embossed cards)
Precautions
The following documents may not be scanned successfully:
Documents of non-uniform thickness (such as, envelopes and documents with
attachments)
Wrinkled or curled documents (See the following hint)
Folded or torn documents
Tracing paper
Coated paper
Carbon paper
Photosensitive paper
Perforated or punched documents
Documents that are not square or rectangular
Exceptionally thin documents (less than 40 g/m
2
)
Photographs (photographic paper)
Do not attempt to scan the following types of documents:
Paper-clipped or stapled documents
Documents on which the ink is still wet
Documents smaller than A8 size
Documents wider than 216 mm (8.5 in.)
Documents other than paper documents and plastic card documents: such as
fabric, foil, and OHP film made documents.
Valuable documents that must not be damaged or dirty
