RS232/485 INTERFACE KEY
Note that the start character '<' (hex 0x3c) and the end control character '\r' (hex 0x0d) must be added to each packet
before transmission. Refer to "Examples" section. Data Item 1 is always the address of the key. Zero for RS232 and
user-selectable for RS485. Refer to Table 6.
Global Configuration Packet: Data Type 1.
This configuration data is related to all Frontier transmitters and receiv-
ers communicating with the Gateway. After changes to any of the three configuration packets, the network interface
key must receive this configuration packet first, followed by the configuration packets 2 and 3, as outlined below.
Note: Any time a Global Configuration Packet 1 is sent to the network interface key, configuration packets 2
and 3 must follow (as outlined below) before any other packet types are sent to the network interface key.
Data Item 1 = Key address (RS232 will always be 0)
Data Item 2 = Packet Data Type 1
Data Item 3 = Frontier Facility Code
Data Item 4 = Number of Gateway Inputs
Data Item 5 = Number of Gateway Outputs
Data Item 6 = Polled Outputs: Disabled = 0, Enabled = 1 (automatically enabled for RS485)
Data Item 7 = Packet Acknowledge (ACK): Disabled = 0, Enabled = 1
Data Item 8 = Reserved
If the packet acknowledge is set to enable, this packet and all packets must include and respond to the condition
set.
Input Configuration Packet: Data Type 2.
This configuration is for the Frontier radio receivers (Gateway-transmit-
ted outputs to receivers). Receivers respond only to their program transmitters so the related transmitter ID and point
number must be included. This packet must always follow a Global Configuration Packet unless there are no inputs.
One Input Configuration Packet must be sent for each Frontier receiver point. Gateway-transmitted outputs to field
receivers will not take place until this packet has been sent.
Data Item 1 = Key address (RS232 will always be 0)
Data Item 2 = Packet Data Type 2
Data Item 3 = Frontier Transmitter ID
Data Item 4 = Frontier Point Number
Data Item 5 = Unit Type
Data Item 6 = Upper Limit
Data Item 7 = Lower Limit
Data Item 8 = Transmit Time Interval (in seconds)
Output Configuration Packet: Data Type 3.
This configuration is for the Frontier radio transmitter data (Gateway-
received inputs from transmitters). This packet must always be sent following the Global Configuration Packet and
Input Configuration Packets (if inputs exist) unless there are no outputs. One Output Configuration Packet must be
sent for each Gateway output. The Gateway will not respond to any field transmitter until this configuration packet
has been sent.
Data Item 1 = Key address (RS232 will always be 0)
Data Item 2 = Packet Data Type 3
Data Item 3 = Frontier Transmitter ID
Data Item 4 = Frontier Point Number
Data Item 5 = Unit Type
Data Item 6 = Upper Limit
Data Item 7 = Lower Limit
Data Item 8 = Lost Signal Time Interval (in seconds)
Data Item 9 = LOST type (refer to Table 3)
