31–01 Frame Fastener Torque
Checking
Because of "bedding in" (or seating), the frame fas-
teners must be torqued at the recommended inter-
vals. These intervals apply to new vehicles, and to
frame fasteners that have been removed and in-
stalled again.
CAUTION
Make sure frame fasteners are properly tightened.
Continued vehicle operation with loose fasteners
could result in bracket or frame damage.
Typical frame fastener applications include suspen-
sion brackets, fuel tank, exhaust and engine sup-
ports, frame crossmembers, and gussets.
NOTE: This operation is not intended to be a
bolt-by-bolt check of the entire chassis. Do a
hand check of the typical frame fasteners. If any
fasteners are found loose, tighten them to the
correct torque value.
See Group 00 of the
School Bus Chassis Workshop
Manual
for additional information on fasteners and
torque values.
