GENERAL DESCRIPTION
A. GENERAL
The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System will provide position accuracies
commensurate with selective availability, provided that the system is receiving adequate satellite
signals. The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus has demonstrated that it is capable of and has
met the accuracy requirements of:
1.
VFR/IFR domestic en route, terminal and non-precision instrument approach
operation within the U.S. National Airspace System using WGS-84 (NAD 83)
chart references in accordance with the criteria of Class A1, TSO C-129,
Airborne Supplemental Navigation Equipment Using the Global Positioning
System (GPS).
2.
VFR/IFR domestic enroute, terminal and non-precision approach (GPS, Loran-
C, VOR, VOR-DME, TACAN, NDB, NDB-DME, RNAV) operation approval
within the U.S. National Airspace System and all latitudes bounded by 90
°
North and 90
°
South using WGS-84 (NAD 83) chart references in accordance
with the criteria of FAA Advisory Circular AC 20-138 and AC 91-49.
Navigation data is based upon use of only the global positioning System (GPS)
operated by the United States.
B. EQUIPMENT
DESCRIPTION
The FreeFlight 2101 I/O Approach Plus GPS Navigation System is a Global Positioning Satellite
(GPS) based navigation system, consisting of a Receiver/Display Unit (RDU) and a GPS
antenna. The RDU is located in the center of the instrument panel and the antenna is located on
top of the fuselage at station 163.2. The system is designed to provide the pilot with navigation
and position information from received GPS satellite signals and operate under IFR procedures
for en route and terminal operations. Flight plans, including SIDs and STARs are entered into
the RDU as a number of waypoints to be flown. Navigation information is displayed on the
Captain’s Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) when selected. Roll steering data is also coupled
to the Autopilot when selected and in the HDG mode. An air data computer provides pressure
altitude, true airspeed, and outside air temperature information to the Trimble 2101 I/O
Approach Plus. Annunciators mounted on the pilots instrument panel repeat MSG, WPT, HLD
and APR to provide status/failure/integrity data to the pilot.
