6.3.3 Operation with EtherCAT Fieldbus
Operation with an EtherCAT Fieldbus requires a superordinate EtherCAT Master, such as a
PLC.
An XLM device description file for the PM Gateway is available for configuring the EtherCAT
Master.
These instructions do not address how to configure a PLC or a fieldbus; that information is part
of the respective PLC or fieldbus master description. Every PLC has its own procedure.
NOTICE
Changing the PLC configuration of unknown systems
Systems are specifically configured. The following can happen in the event of an error:

The system stands idle.
 The system may work incorrectly.
 The system is damaged.
 The PLC programme is damaged.

The XML file addresses which inlets, outlets and data formats are available on the EtherCAT
Fieldbus.
