The sander for large, flat
surfaces and style, rail
and panel components
RS2E
½ sheet orbital sander
Item No. 567 669
The orbital sander was invented by Festool and
the RS2E is the hidden champion of our line of
sanders. The RS2E is a ½ sheet orbital sander
with a fine, 2.5mm stroke and a real workhorse.
Unfortunately ½ sheet sanders have become
more and more unpopular in recent years in the woodworking industry. They have been
replaced by the widely used random orbital sander.
Though random orbital sanders have a number of advantages, you can’t beat ½ sheet
sanders for smoothing out and finishing large, flat surfaces. Since a good ½ sheet sander
produces a nearly perfect, flat plane there is no worry about dips or gouges showing up
after finish dries.
The Festool RS2E ½ sheet orbital sander sets the standard, and has been the workhorse
and most used sander in thousands of cabinet shops all over the world for a long time.
It's weight works to it's advantage, favoring a perfect finish. All you need to do is gently
guide it along. The sander does all of the work, no pressure required. The almost
vibration-free design glides along the surface producing a natural patina even before the
finish is applied.
The large pad of the RS2E is also ideal for rail, style and panel components where a round
pad might leave an undesirable depression along the edge. It is perfect for edge sanding
when you want to maintain crisp lines.
Another advantage of the RS2E sander is that even an unskilled helper can do an excellent
job with the RS2E sander, while using a random orbital sander takes a lot more practice to
achieve a good result without dips and gouges.
It is important to have the right sander for the job, not just any sander. The right sander
will make sanding a lot more enjoyable and the results perfect.
Think about this when you are in the market for your next sander.
