MAIN AUGER SHEAR BOLT

Replacement

NOTE: 12” Backsaver Augers use a 5/16” x 3” grade

5 shear bolt, located on the top shaft of the
lower gearbox and lower internal power shaft
u-joint.

Enter the operator’s position and turn tractor engine off.
(See “Entering The Operator’s Position” on page 76.)

Leave the operator’s position. (See “Leaving The
Operator’s Position” on page 76.)

Disconnect PTO driveline. (See “Disconnecting The PTO
Driveline” on page 78.)

Disconnect hydraulic lines. (See “Connecting /
Disconnecting Hydraulic Lines” on page 82.)

Align mounting holes of top shaft of the lower gearbox
and internal power shaft u-joint. Install one 5/16” x 3” bolt
(Item 1) through the u-joint and lower gearbox shaft.
Install one 5/16” lock nut (Item 2)

onto the

bolt and tighten against the u-joint.

Replace shear bolt only with specified size and
grade (5/16” x 3” grade 5). Replacing with a higher
grade bolt may result in damage to the drive
components.

AVOID INJURY OR DEATH

Before you leave the operator’s position:

•

Always park on a flat level surface.

•

Place all controls in NEUTRAL.

•

Engage the park brake.

•

Stop the engine and remove the key.

•

Wait for all moving parts to stop.
