Troubleshooting the Control Plane and Data Plane
When troubleshooting the ARX, it may be clear that a failure condition
exists, but it may not be clear which component has failed. Specifically,
when the data plane (DP) cannot detect the presence of the control plane
(CP), it could be a CP failure, a DP failure, or a failure of the PCI-E cable
connecting the two components. In such cases, step through the following
procedure:
1. Remove and reconnect the PCI-E cable, ensuring that the CP and
DP are securely connected. For details on removing the cable, see
Replacing a PCI Express Cable, on page A-9.
2. Reboot.
3. Issue the CLI
show version
command to
verify that the DP is visible
to the CP.
4. If the DP is not visible, replace the PCI-E cable with a new cable
and reboot again.
5. If the DP is still not visible, FRU the entire system, following the
steps in this appendix.
Failure indications may also arise from the following:
• CP/DP uncorrectable Error-Check Circuitry (ECC) error reported by
SNMP trap.
• CP/DP excessive correctable ECC errors reported by SNMP trap.
• CP fan failure reported by SNMP trap.
• CP over temperature reported by SNMP trap.
• CP fails to boot.
• DP POST failure reported by SNMP trap.
• DP not visible to the firmware. Issue the CLI
show version
command
which will indicate that the DP is
Offline
.
