Platform Guide: 6900 and 8900

Always-On Management
The Always-On Management (AOM) subsystem provides you the capability
to manage the 6900/8900 platform remotely using SSH or a serial console,
even if the host subsystem is powered down.
bigpipe
The
bigpipe
utility provides command line access to the BIG-IP software.
chassis
A chassis refers to the housing component of the 6900/8900 platform.
Configuration utility
The Configuration utility is the browser-based application that you use to
configure the software.
DNS (Domain Name System)
DNS is a service that translates domain names into IP addresses. For
example, the domain name
www.sample.com
might translate to
101.102.103.104
.
LCD (liquid crystal display)
An LCD panel is available on the front of the 6900/8900 platform. You can
use the LCD and its associated controls to configure the management port
on the unit and view basic statistics.
LED (light-emitting diode)
Indicator and network interface LEDs are available on the front of the
6900/8900 platform. You can use these LEDs to monitor any alert
conditions occurring on your unit and network traffic activity and
conditions.
port
A port is represented by a number that is associated with a specific service
supported by a host.
PXE (Pre-Boot Execution Environment)
PXE is a network boot method. It allows you to boot a computer from a
server on a network before you boot the operating system on the local hard
drive.
SSH
SSH is a protocol for secure remote logon and other secure network services
over a non-secure network.
