FOX T/R USB Extender Plus • Setup Guide
The FOX T/R USB Extender Plus is a USB transmitter and receiver pair that extends USB signals
over fiber optic cabling. It is compatible with USB 3.0, 2.0, 1.1, and 1.0 devices with transfer
data rates up to 480 Mbps. It features peripheral emulation, an active four-port hub that supplies 5 Volts, 500 mA per port,
and real-time system monitoring. It is also compatible with Extron FOX matrix switchers for signal distribution systems up to
1000x1000 and larger. The FOX T/R USB Extender Plus units are housed in quarter rack wide, 6 inches (15 cm) deep, 1 inch
(2.5 cm) high metal enclosures.
The transmitter and receiver are available in two versions, differentiated by the type of fiber optic cable, multimode or singlemode,
that defines their effective range of transmission:
•
Singlemode
— Very long distance, up to 30 kilometers (18.6 miles)
•
Multimode
— Long distance, up to 2 kilometers (6,561 feet)
NOTE:
The multimode and singlemode units are physically and functionally identical, with the exception of the effective
range of transmission. In this guide, all instructions apply to either transmission mode unless otherwise specified.
This guide provides basic instructions for an experienced installer to set up and operate the fiber optic Extron FOX T/R USB
Extender Plus transmitter and receiver.
