Installation and Setup

This chapter describes the following:

How to decide where to install the Summit switch

Gigabit Ethernet configuration rules

How to install the switch in a rack or free-standing

•

How to connect equipment to the console port

•

How to check the installation using the Power On Self-Test (POST)

Before installing or removing any components of the switch, or before carrying out any

guide.

Determining the Switch Location

The Summit switch is suited for use in the office, where it can be free-standing or
mounted in a standard 19-inch equipment rack. Alternately, the device can be
