Caring for Walter™
Walter™ is not a toy and should only be used with adult supervision.
Walter™ is a sensitive electronic device with an optical scanner which should not be dropped, used
or stored in direct sunlight or sandy or dusty conditions, or exposed to extreme temperatures, or
immersed in any fluids. If Walter™ is damaged as a result of any of these circumstances, the
warranty will not be valid.
Do not use Walter™ in excessively humid conditions or subject it to rapid changes in temperature
as the accumulation of condensation in the electrical circuitry may cause it to fail.
When changing batteries, use caution discarding the old batteries. Do not burn them as they may
explode. Remove the batteries if you do not plan to use Walter™ for an extended period of time.
Troubleshooting
Walter™ does not turn on:
Check that the SD card is inserted.
If you are using the power supply provided, check that it is properly connected and plugged
into the power outlet.
If you are using batteries, check that the batteries are new/have sufficient charge and are
placed in the correct polarity.
Check that the battery compartment is properly closed.
Walter™ turns on but there is no sound when an icon is scanned:
Check that the volume is turned up.
Check that Walter™ has been activated for that book by scanning the icon on the title page.
This has to be repeated every time a new book is selected.
Ensure that the book is placed flat on the table or floor, and that the pen scans across the icon
slowly, and is not pressed onto the page.
If there is still no sound, re-synchronize the pen with the base unit:
On the base unit, press
and hold for 10 seconds.
When the blue light on the base unit is flashing, scan this icon
with the pen. The lights
on the base unit and pen will both flash blue to show that synchronization is in process. Once
complete, the lights will stop flashing and will remain blue.
