INSTRUMENT OPERATION

 

- Simply aim the RayTemp 28 Infrared (IR) Thermometer at the target 

and press the trigger to measure the surface temperature, 'SCAN' will appear in the LCD display 
and flash. When the trigger is released the reading is automatically held for 35 seconds and 
'HOLD' is displayed, after which the thermometer will shut down. 

MEASUREMENT ZONE/TARGET DISTANCE

 - The measurement zone is proportional to the distance 

the RayTemp is away from the target. The thermometer is equipped with a 30:1 lens. If the target 
is 300mm away, the measurement zone will be 10mm across. 

THERMOCOUPLE PROBE/SENSOR

 - To display the thermocouple probe temperature, press the 

MODE button until 'TK' is displayed. Press and hold the trigger to take a measurement. If the 
thermocouple breaks or is not connected, the instrument will display the ambient temperature. The 
thermometer should only be used with thermocouple type K nickel-chromium/nickel-aluminium 
probes or sensors that meet BS EN 60584:1996 standard and are fitted with a suitable miniature 
thermocouple plug. 

MAXIMUM, MINIMUM, DIFFERENTIAL & AVERAGE

 - To access the maximum reading, press the 

MODE button until 'MAX' is displayed. To access the minimum reading, press the Mode button 
again until 'MIN' is displayed. To access the differential readings, press the MODE button until 'DIF' 
is displayed. To access the average reading, press the MODE button again until 'AVG' is displayed. 
Maximum and minimum, differential and average readings will be reset when the instrument 
powers down. 

HIGH & LOW ALARMS

 - To access and set the high alarm, press and hold the MODE button until 

' ' flashes in the displayed. To adjust the high alarm value, press the MODE button once more 
and 'HAL' will flash, use the UP   and DOWN   button to adjust. To change the low alarm, press 
the MODE button until 'LAL' is displayed, use the UP   and DOWN   button to adjust. If the set 
alarms are exceed '

' will flash in the LCD and the unit will beep.

RECORD

 - The RayTemp 28 will record up to 12 taken temperatures and store them into the unit’s 

memory. With the unit switched on, press the MODE button until 'REC' is displayed and use the  
UP   and DOWN   button to review. 

Please note:

 temperatures taken are overwritten on further 

measurements taken past the 12th recorded temperature. To clear all records, the battery has to 
be removed.

 - Press the UP   and DOWN   button to switch between the °C or °F scale. 

 

Please note:

 when the unit is next turned on, it will default to the last selected scale.

LOCK FUNCTION

 - The Lock function temporarily disables the auto-power off, and is used for 

continuous monitoring of temperatures. The lock slide switch is located in the battery compartment. 
Slide the switch to LOCK ' ' and the unit will then continuously measure temperature without the 
need to depress the trigger. To turn off the lock function, slide the switch to UNLOCK ' '. 

LCD BACKLIGHT

 - To turn the backlight on or off, press the backlight/laser '
